Woman Arrested in Hit and Run Accident

Police have made an arrest in a hit and run accident that killed a man in a wheelchair.

The suspect, 32, is charged with leaving the scene of the accident with death and felony driving on a suspended license.


On Wednesday night, at 9:00 p.m., the man was crossing Fowler Street in his motorized wheelchair when a car hit him and sped away leaving the scene.

Police had been looking for a suspect but had turned up empty. Friday, homicide investigators received an anonymous tip that led them to the suspect. Officer's seized the vehicle and she later surrendered to police.

She told police she had panicked after the crash and fled the scene. She says she is remorseful and cooperative with the police.

Since 1999, she has been arrested:

• Five times for failing to obey a traffic device
• Three times for speeding
• Two times for driving an unsafe vehicle
• Four times for driving with a suspended license
